Obituary for Samuel Rodger Barker

Samuel Rodger Barker, 68, completed his sojourn on this earth May 8, 2021 in Ephraim, Utah surrounded by loved ones.

He was born in Provo, Utah. Sam was raised in Hobble Creek Canyon. He attended Springville High School where he excelled in drafting and orchestra playing the viola.

Sam served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Ireland. It was his life-long dream to return to this land and the people he loved. That was fulfilled in 2019.

He attended Snow College and graduated with a General Associates Degree in 1976. While there, he was a member of the LDSingers and served as the Institute Vice President in charge of recruiting. It was there that he met the love of his life, Vickee Mellor! They were sealed in the Manti Temple in June of 1976. They then moved to Logan, Utah, where Sam continued his education and graduated in 1977 in Horticulture and Greenhouse Management. Sam worked in printing most of his career and even owned his own business.

In 1983, Sam and Vickee settled down in Hobble Creek Canyon where they raised nine wonderful children! They remained there for 38 years and only recently moved to the town where they met and fell in love: Ephraim, Utah.

Sam loved camping, BYU football, taking family trips each summer, playing games with the family, especially chess and pinochle, dutch oven cooking and working with his children.

Sam was highly involved in scouting program including Webelos, Varsity, Timberline and helping many receive their eagles.

Sam had a love for music. He sang tenor in the ward choir and played Brigham Young in the stake musical "Rockwell."

Sam is survived by his wife, Vickee Barker, two daughters Julane (Josh Walker) and Keeara (Brian Terry), seven sons Glen (Missy), Samuel (Katie), Hyrum (Cassandra), Jesse (Ann), Brandon (Delicia), Brigham (Kaeli), and Jacob; three brothers James (Sandy), Steve (Shirleen), and Dennis, one sister Evelyn (Morris) Howard and twenty-six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Lois Barker, a brother Roy, and a sister Pat.
