Obituary for Joe Dean Cash

Joe Dean Cash

Springville UT – Joe Dean Cash, 87 years old, received a terminal diagnosis on Tuesday and spent the next two days at home surrounded by family, laughing and loving, before passing away on January 22, 2021.

Joe was born on August 25, 1933 in Logan, UT to Dean and Juanita Cash. He was the first of three children. He married Carol Greenig on June 20, 1958 in the Los Angeles, CA Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Joe grew up in Utah and California and learned the value of hard work at a young age. He met Carol Greenig after completing his service in the Army during the Korean War with his primary deployment in Panama. Joe and Carol raised their family in Lakewood, CA. Joe retired early from General Telephone Electric where he began as a lineman and completed his career managing a telecommunications center. Following his initial retirement he worked for several companies, including Douglas Aircraft and Spongberg Mortuary. He also oversaw facilities for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Joe loved playing and refereeing softball throughout his adult life. He was very handy and became a skilled woodworker in his later years. His posterity became the beneficiary of these talents as they were gifted his clocks, benches, pens and many other projects that were a true labor of love. Joe served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life, including cherished opportunities to serve as the bishop of the Long Beach 2nd Ward and Virginia Ward of the Long Beach, CA Stake and later patriarch of the stake. He also served as an ordinance worker, with Carol, in the Ciudad Juarez Temple during their years in New Mexico. Joe is a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather. His posterity has been blessed by his unconditional love and support. Countless others consider Joe as a father and grandfather figure in their lives due to his love and concern for others.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol Cash, his siblings Jack Cash and Marlene Taylor, three daughters and their spouses: Camille Wood and Lance, Kelly Robinson and Russell, and Kimberly Ward and Bradley, nineteen grandchildren, fifty-four great-grandchildren (and five more on the way).
